Electric power goes underground in Rio de Janeiro
In Brazil, Schneider Electric has sold 250 RM6 Merlin Gerin MV protection units for transformers to Light Power Co., a subsidiary of Electricité de France. The equipment will be used in a project to renovate the electrical distribution system in the Jardim Oceanico district of Rio de Janeiro. The project’s objectives are to move the overhead lines below ground and to renovate the existing underground system. Advantages for the customer include increased reliability and a quick return on investment. Five electrical equipment manufacturers and an engineering firm are involved in this contract.
