New subsidiary in Ukraine
Schneider Electric decided to strengthen its presence in Ukraine by opening a subsidiary in Kiev on October 1. Schneider Electric Ukraine, with its 28 employees, is primarily involved in marketing. «After two years of encouraging business results, we decided to set up a full-fledged subsidiary,» says Jean-Louis Stasi, head of Schneider Electric Ukraine. «Our priority is to continue developing a solid network of partners and efficient logistics so we can offer customers competitive service and achieve sales of FF 100 million in 2003.» The overall outlook for the Ukrainian economy is improving steadily. Schneider Electric recently won two major contracts, one in oil transportation and the other in metallurgy.
Schneider Electric has been active in Ukraine since 1991 through a partnership between Telemecanique and ETAL, a regional leader in contactor manufacturing. A key step was taken in 1993 with the opening of a representation office in Kiev. Growth has picked up since 1997 thanks to the creation of a network of local and regional partners.
