Renovation of the Dukovany nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic
In a consortium with Framatome, Schneider Electric has signed an agreement with Skoda JS to upgrade safety systems at the Dukovany nuclear power plant. The contract covers instrumentation and control systems for reactor protection and for reactor control under accident conditions. The four-unit plant is operated by state-owned Czech power generator CEZ. The Dukovany power plant, equipped with Russian-designed VVER 440-213 reactors, will be renovated gradually between 2005 and 2009.
Spinline 3, a cutting-edge technology jointly developed by Framatome and SES, will be used in this project. The digital safety system offering is specifically designed for safety equipment rated Class 1E under international standards. It was recently installed at France’s Fessenheim nuclear power plant and in Units 3 and 4 of Bulgaria’s Kozloduy facility. Spinline 3 will be introduced next year at the Tihange plant in Belgium and the Qinshan plant in China.
Schneider Electric in the Czech Republic
Schneider Electric began operating in the Czech Republic in 1980. Headquartered in Prague, the local unit now has 500 employees and a number of facilities, including a plant in Pisek, an assembly center, a distribution center and two sales offices. The subsidiary, which is well established in the nuclear power sector, has already won several contracts for the Dukovany facility. Close cooperation between the local team and SES contributed decisively to this latest successful bid.
