Sumaré plant in Brazil certified ISO 14001

Schneider Electric’s production facility in Sumaré, Brazil has been certified to ISO 14001 standards. The plant, which has 135 employees, makes MV/LV panels and substations, MV switchgear and LV prefabricated busbar trunking.

The ISO label covers all of the facility’s operations, as well as its recycling program. Sumaré provides a charity known as Association for Parents and Friends of the Mentally Disabled with all of its paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and metal waste for recycling. The Association uses the proceeds to help 20 low-income families.

          Environmental management
Today, two-thirds of Schneider Electric’s production facilities have received ISO 14001 certification. Six plants were certified when the standard was issued in 1996:
          > Le Vaudreuil and Libourne in France.
          > Marienheide in Germany.
          > Valencia in Spain.
          > Telford in the UK.
          > Oxford in the US.

Schneider Electric is pursuing certification worldwide, and notably in the US, where all of its plants have an environmental management system and will be certified to ISO 14001 standards in 2001.
