Planned co-operation agreement
Why not ourselves apply a solution that we often recommend to manufacturers?
It was in asking this question, that Schneider Electric decided to set up a pilot plant at its Vaudreuil site in order to demonstrate that variable speed drives are the primary factor in compressor power savings.
With its compressor base due to be renewed at the Vaudreuil plant, Schneider Electric chose to outsource its compressed air generation activities to Air Liquide, who committed to continuous 100%-availability energy supply.
It all started with a project by Air Liquide, leading supplier of compressed air for manufacturing industries, aimed at finding ways to reduce the running cost of compressors to make them more competitive. In fact, it appeared that three quarters of the operating costs of a compressor are due to its electrical power consumption and using a variable speed drive can reduce this.
Schneider Electric can thus develop a global offer made up from its electrical distribution, power control and automation products and expertise, with the Altivar 68 right at the heart of the offer.
This co-operation agreement, at present being signed with Air Liquide, should open the door to the French installed base of industrial compressors that number tens of thousands.
