Schneider Electric Ventures, the capital risk division of Schneider Electric, dedicated to financing innovative technology start-ups, has agreed to a financial investment in the American company Ipsil, which specializes in very low cost Ethernet and Internet connectivity.. Schneider Electric and Ipsil have also agreed on a technological partnership to explore how to incorporate Internet connectivity technology developed by Ipsil to Schneider Electric’s products and applications.
« The opportunity to work with Schneider Electric has been particularly relevant to our development », commented Velu Sinha, CEO of Ipsil. « The pent-up demand for open networking solutions for industrial applications, coupled with the enormous number of network endpoints to be controlled and monitored in time critical environnements is an ideal match for the Ipsil FlowStack* architecture and our family of single-chip internet communications and applications solutions».
«Ipsil is an avant-garde technological partner who will give our solutions an edge in the market», said Jean Netter, Fund Manager for Schneider Electric Ventures. « Ipsil delivers standards-compliant TCP/IP in a footprint that is an order of magnitude smaller than competitive offerings. We look for promising start-up technologies that will be at the center of breakthrough products over the next few years, particularly in home automation, microgeneration, services linked to industrial automation networks and electrical networks. Ipsil fits in with our high potential technology strategy ».
Ipsil, is Schneider Electric Ventures’ fifth investment. Since May 2000, Schneider Electric Ventures has acquired a stake in the capital of:
> Teem Photonics (France-Grenoble) : a company specialized in optoelectronic components for communication networks
> W3 Ping (France-Brest) : a company specialized in the measurement of the service quality of Web servers
> Ixia Soft (Canada-Montreal) : a company specialized in XML technology data base servers
> Technopuce (France-Lunéville) : a company specialized in active and innovative electronic tags for various functions (trackability, surveillance, accessibility, etc).
Using a completely original approach, Ipsil provides compact Internet controller-on-a-chip technology designed to network-enable a broad range of devices such as sensors, monitors, meters, and VolP handsets. Although very compact, the Ipsil component is completely compatible with Internet standards.
Ipsil’s technology makes pervasive connectivity a reality by adding connectivity to devices that were previously cost-prohibitive to network.
In addition to general-purpose devices, Ipsil also has a series of specialized solutions for industries including industrial controls, telecommunications, utilities/energy, medical and networking – enabling its customers to connect absolutely everything. Ipsil is a privately held company based in Cambridge, Massachussets.
