Grands Records:The Round Britain race will be attempted in September
During testing along the British coast, the trimaran’s new rudder blade performed satisfactorily although conditions were not perfect – the highest wind encountered was 18 knots.
Olivier de Kersauson and his crew will start their attempt on the Round Britain, Ireland and All Islands Record in September. The meteorological complexity of this route makes it one of the most complete and demanding record courses. The current record was set in 1994 by Steve Fosset with a time of 5 days, 21 hours, 5 minutes and 27 seconds.
Before making her second attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy, Geronimo will then turn her attention to the Discovery Route (Cadiz – San Salvador), the route taken in 1492 by the legendary navigator Christopher Columbus on his voyage to discover the New World. The current record time of 10 days, 14 hours, 54 minutes and 44 seconds was set in 2000 by Grant Dalton in Club Med.
