Costa Rica: Contract for the most exclusive beach resort of Central America
Schneider Electric sister company in Costa Rica has been awarded the contract for the supply of the Medium Voltage and Low Voltage energy distribution equipment for the biggest and most exclusive beach resort of Central America, owned by the Canadian franchise Four Seasons. With an investment above USD 100 million and 484,375 square feet of construction, the resort will be located in the North Pacific coast, province of Guanacaste. It is currently under construction and is set to open on next December, 2003.
For Schneider Electric it represents a business of more than USD 1.3 MM. The main equipment to be supplied comprises 34.5 kV HVL and HVL/cc MV Switchgears, Silicone Substation Transformers, SF1 Automatic MV Transfer Switch, I-Line Busway, Power Zone 4 LV Switchgear, Model 6I Motor Control Centers supplied by Smyrna, Oxford, Columbia, Monroe and Seneca Square D Plants in the States.
The Schneider Centroamerica entity had to deal with a lot of international players (Canada, USA and Costa Rica) to win this project, among designers, consulting, building contractors, and end customer, being a key success factor the experience in previous similar projects with multinational companies in the region, and the possibility to configure an alternate proposal with HVL/cc MV Switchgears and Merlin Gerin MV Circuit Breakers, SF1.
The compact size and the modular construction of the HVL/cc MV Switchgear Sections will allow flexibility for adding sections in future expansions. The mechanical and electrical endurance and very low maintenance of the Merlin Gerin SF1 Circuit Breaker was essential to meet the customer needs in a 34.5 kV Automatic Transfer Switch.
