Cooperation in high voltage switchgear
Schneider Electric High Voltage, the high-voltage solutions subsidiary of Schneider Electric, and Taiwan’s Tatung Co. have signed an agreement to produce HV gas-insulated switchgear (161 to 354 kV) in Taiwan.
As part of the agreement, Schneider Electric and Tatung will offer a joint product and services lineup. Tatung will contribute its products while Schneider Electric will provide know-how in developing and managing large turnkey projects.
The alliance’s objective is to serve the anticipated boom in local demand for power transmission and distribution. Taiwan utility TPC is planning to invest more than four billion Taiwan dollars to meet this expected growth.
Schneider Electric High Voltage chose to work with Tatung Co. (30,000 employees, sales of FF 25 billion) because of its excellent performance in the Taiwanese market. Tatung Co. is involved in a highly diversified range of businesses. It was attracted by Schneider Electric’s top-flight reputation in Taiwan for semi-conductor transformer substations, an area where reliability and quality service are crucial. This choice of a French partner marks a change in Tatung’s cooperation strategy, which generally focused on Japan.
